Proofing Case Study

We were commissioned to develop a tailored proofing solution for this project. As part of the Weeks Group, we have direct access to skilled trades, allowing us to deliver cost-effective solutions without relying on subcontractors. During our assessment, we identified mice harbouring in gaps alongside the wooden bench seating. Food debris was accumulating and proving difficult to clean.

The seats were designed with removable covers, requiring a custom solution that allowed for repositioning while effectively sealing any gaps that could serve as entry points for mice. This presented a unique challenge, as each seat was a bespoke build with distinct dimensions, demanding a tailored approach for every unit. To achieve the optimal outcome, we used our skilled carpenters who  crafted a solution to ensure both functionality and pest prevention.

For another style of bench seating, wood was not a suitable option, requiring an alternative approach. To effectively prevent mice from entering and nesting within the structure, we enclosed the seating in 5mm weld mesh, ensuring a durable and secure barrier.

During the design and build phase, the existing proofing was found to be unsuitable and required removal. As part of the sign-off process, we developed a new solution to replace the ineffective proofing, ensuring the area was properly sealed with wooden battens. This approach effectively prevented mouse ingress while maintaining the authenticity of the bench seating.

A total of 35 bench seats and one curved booth were successfully proofed, effectively preventing both mouse ingress and food debris accumulation. These measures not only deterred mice from entering the premises but also ensured a cleaner and more hygienic environment. To minimise disruption to the client’s operations, our team worked through the night, delivering a seamless solution without impacting business trading.
